Urban–rural disparities in nature-based activities and health outcomes

Abstract

Urban dominance and tense work environs affecting mental health of individuals on the other hand rural communities are healthy and relaxed with greenery and therapeutic horticulture interventions. Horticulture therapy is an evolving field of verified practice; exert a satisfactory stimulus on physical, mental and emotive manners. HT comprises of garden landscaping and focused use of plant linked action to endorse comfort in the client. The objective of the study was to inquire about people plants interaction and their influence on health and wellbeing. Current research conceded out at two different hospitals of rural area and urban area of Pakistan. Indoor plants were incorporated in the rooms of patients with different gardening activities hoeing, seed sowing for freshness and physical activeness. In total 200 respondents, interviewed overview the impact of plants on patient’s recovery. Diabetic, cardiac patients, old aged, blood pressure and mentally retarded people were questioned 90% of them respond for restored feeling while spending time in nature. Results from the survey verified that garden and indoor plants give soothing and calming effect on patient’s mind. People from rural areas were healthy and stress free than those living in urban areas and not spending time with plants and in green spaces. Data was concluded by statistical procedures SPSS (statistical package for social sciences) with chi- square test.
